Glossary

  1. action — a kind of entry used for recording actions carried out by clinical subjects, usually in response to instructions specified by the clinician.
  2. ADL Workbench — a GUI application for viewing and validating archetypes
  3. archetypes — re-usable, formal models of domain concepts; artefacts on which the openEHR approach is built (see the openEHR Foundation's official definition).
  4. Archetype Editor — a GUI application for creating and editing archetypes.
  5. composition — the smallest attestable/committable subset of information within an EHR. A composition is versionable so information model to represent all the versions of a composition is a versioned composition.
  6. composition version — a single version of a (versioned) composition (see versioned composition).
  7. Data path — refers to one or more items in the data
  8. EHR — the electronic health record of one subject.
  9. EhrBank — an EHR repository.
  10. EhrBank Web Service — a web service facade for EhrBank server.
  11. EhrBank Server — the core API component within EhrBank.
  12. EhrGate — a client to EhrBank with which EhrView interacts (formerly known as EhrBank Client).
  13. EhrView — a generic viewer of openEHR EHR data.
  14. entry — a subset of information within a composition (an evaluation, observation, instruction, action or administrative entry).
  15. evaluation — a kind of entry used for recording conclusions or evaluations made by the clinician, usually based on one or more observations.
  16. evaluation — a kind of entry
  17. instruction — a kind of entry used for recording instructions made by the clinician.
  18. kernel — a term once used to describe specific subset of components within EhrGate responsible for the core functionality of interfacing with EhrBank.
  19. LifeKey — a small portable device designed to store a single openEHR EHR and may contain.
  20. observation — a kind of entry used for recording objective observations made by the clinician.
  21. OceanEHR — an EHR system based on the openEHR specification; more formerly, a suite of applications, namely EhrBank, EhrGate and EhrView.
  22. Ocean Terminology Server — an archetype-based terminology service.
  23. openEHR — an approach to integrated health care informatics (see the openEHR Foundation website for more information).
  24. OTS — (see Ocean Terminology Server)
  25. package — a set of classes which make up a component or subcomponent.
  26. persistent composition — a composition, such as that used to maintain a medications list for a subject, which is expected to be continually updated and frequently viewed. According to the openEHR information model, persistent compositions are "compositions containing information which is valid in the long term".
  27. Prototype path — path to a template prototype item/structure
  28. section — a subset of information within a composition containing zero or more content items (such as entries).
  29. template — a document which draws together one or more archetypes and optionally further constrains items in each archetype to provide a model for a useful instance of EHR data. A single template produces consistent 'views' on elements of the same archetype or combinations of archetypes, whereas 'sibling' templates may provide different 'views'.
  30. Unique data path — guaranteed to refer to one item in the data
  31. Virtual EHR — a component within EhrGate, responsible for interfacing with EhrBank to store and retrieve EHR data.
  32. Version — a single item within a multi-versioned object. This typically refers to a composition version within a versioned composition object.
